Apache Junction is Transforming! Click here to see the most recent progress on a number of downtown initiatives!
Central Arizona College is expanding! The Superstition Mountain Campus – in the heart of Apache Junction’s downtown – is currently expanding to meet the higher education needs of our region. The first new building will be placed diagonally on the property with a Northeastern exposure. The project centerpiece will be a 45,000 square foot facility consisting of 16 instructional spaces and two large multi-purpose classrooms. Additional features of future campus expansion will include a library, computer commons, and food service facility. The build-out may take as long as 20 years based upon population growth and additional bond funding. With this expansion, Apache Junction will benefit from better connectivity between the college campus and dining, shopping and entertainment opportunities in the downtown.
Mountain Health & Wellness is Now Open! With a new model of integrated healthcare that will set a new standard for a more focused and efficient delivery of behavioral, health and wellness services, Mountain Health & Wellness celebrated its Grand Opening of the new 34,000 square foot facility on May 6, 2011. This state-of-the art facility offers some of the best integrated health care services in the state, will provide employment opportunities and quality jobs within Apache Junction’s downtown supporting 121 jobs, an annual payroll of $6.2 million, and the capacity to serve the needs of over 5,000 clients per month. This new addition represents a nearly $5 million dollar investment in the heart of Apache Junction’s downtown!
Downtown AJ…Now Sporting a More Traditional Look! Taking an existing linear commercial area approximately two miles in length developed when Apache Trial was a major highway (US 60), creating a “downtown feel” posed a challenge. But, we’re happy to announce our first segment of our new “Main Street” cross section featuring on-street parking, wide pedestrian sidewalks, major landscape enhancement and specialty lighting opened in May 2011. With plans to further incorporate a “Main Street” street network throughout the downtown core, our “downtown feel” will be infectious!
